On Innovative Approaches in Azerbaijani Painting in the Independence Period; Zakir Huseynov Example”

Azerbaijan's valuable art of painting takes its roots from the Gobustan rock paintings, which date back to prehistoric times, and has evolved over time to the point of decay. These works of art in Gobustan include human figures, hunting scenes, ritual dances, maritime depictions and even astronomical information about celestial bodies. These paintings are considered an indispensable part of the cultural and artistic existence of Azerbaijan. In general, Gobustan rock paintings are just the beginning of Azerbaijan's long progress in art history. After Azerbaijan gained its independence in 1991, the artists started a new movement with national identity and art. Artists further highlight their national identities and create new and contemporary works, drawing on their own cultural roots, to represent Azerbaijan on the world art stage. In this process, artist Zakir Huseynov, who discussed his life in various ways, created original works that reflect the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan by challenging what was presented until the end of the Soviet Union period and developing his own artistic change. The originality and meaningfulness of Huseynov's art lies in the fact that he vividly displays the identity and colors of Azerbaijan in his works. Throughout the artist's thirty-year career, he has left a permanent mark on the Azerbaijani art world with his personal style and techniques. This text discusses Huseynov's works and systematic perspective, and evaluates his expression methods.
