INTERACTION OF FEMINIST ART AND TEXTILES IN CONTEMPORARY ART PRACTICE

The language of art is an effective expression of artists' own creative worlds. The ability of artists, and therefore their works, to reflect individual and societal life allows for a form of communication that sometimes transcends the subjective competence of language. Therefore, it can be said that especially the visual arts offer a cross-cultural form of communication.

Although art, as a reflection of cultural products and societal realities, reflects the conditions of the time, the artists who create art utilize various forms of expression to depict their emotions, significant historical moments, or certain perspectives through time and space. Particularly in contemporary art, ongoing discussions regarding the perception of space have led to diversification in artists' evaluations of new material searches, different approaches, and structural issues. For instance, it can be said that the majority of textile art works produced after World War II were executed with synthetic materials, products of technology.

Textiles, which are one of the widespread and creative cultural elements in the world due to their diversity and continuity, can be said to continue to serve as an alternative discourse and expression tool in contemporary art practices, allowing for the redefinition of the art object with different materials and techniques. In this regard, this study focuses on how artists use the materials and techniques of textile art to create awareness through the phenomenon of feminism in their works and to make humanity reflect upon it.

The study focuses on evaluating the sociological, psychological, or personal factors that are decisive in the production of the selected artworks, and it emphasizes the new expressive possibilities brought by textile material from contemporary art practice to feminist art. While the visual document examination of the artists' works constitutes the visual data analysis part of the study, a literature review was conducted using various resources such as books, theses, articles, and internet sources in the field literature. During the research process, after the visual and written data collection phase, descriptive data analysis and interpretation were conducted to reach a conclusion.
