İçinde bulunduğumuz şu dönem, yalnızca sözlü aktarımın ağır bastığı bizimki gibi toplumların değil, yazılı kültür aktarımı konusunda çok daha köklü alışkanlıklara sahip olanların da tarihle olan ilişkilerinin temellerinden sarsılıp değiştiği bir evrede olduğumuza işaret etmektedir. Modernizme bağlanan umutların, yerini büyük çaplı düş kırıklıklarına bırakmasıyla hızlı bir biçimde Postmodernizm adı verilen evreye girilmesinin yalnızca Batıda değil, modernitesi başarısız toplumlarda da yarattığı etkiler sözcüğün tam manasıyla beklenmedik olmuştur. Postmodern süreçlerin neden olduğu değişim/dönüşüm ancak bilinen tüm doğa yasalarının anlık ihtiyaçlar doğrultusunda eğilip bükülmesi yönünde bir fantasmayla kıyaslanabilecek sonuçlar doğurmuş; tüm değer dizgelerini bir yandan geçersiz kılarken diğer yandan bahsi geçen “anlık ihtiyaçlara” göre yeniden düzenlenmesine imkan veren kitlesel ölçekte zihinsel süreçlerin önünü açmıştır. Güncel uygulamaları örneğinde Mehter müziğinin taşıdığı sembolik anlam bu minvalde değerlendirildiği takdirde, geçmişe ait yüksek sanat formlarının yeniden üretilmesi sorunsalına bir nebze olsun ışık tutabilecek bir örnek teşkil ettiği görülecektir. Tarihe anakronik bir çerçeveden bakarak onu araçsallaştırma girişimlerinin en başta Mehter gibi görkemli sanat formlarının itibarını zedelediği göz ardı edilmemesi gereken bir problem olarak önümüzde durmaktadır.

Modernism has been replaced by postmodernism because of the frustration it caused and in the end has had unpredictable consequences not only for western societies, but also for modernization unsuccessful societies. The change / transformation caused by postmodern processes produced results that can only be compared with a fantasy of bending and twisting all known laws of nature in line with the immediate needs; on the one hand, it has paved the way for mass-scale mental processes that allow it to be rearranged according to the “instantaneous needs” on the other. If the symbolic meaning of Mehter music in this example is evaluated in this context, It will be seen that it constitutes an example that can shed some light to the problem of the reproduction of the high art forms of the past. An attempt to look at history from an anachronistic perspective it is a problem that should not be underestimated that magnificent art forms such as Mehter damage the credibility.
