THE CONSTRUCTION OF EMOTIONAL SPACES THROUGH INTERACTIVE LIGHTİNG DESIGN

In contemporary performance arts, stage design is not only limited to physical installations but has also evolved into a multi-layered narrative field that encompasses sensory and psychological interactions with the audience. This study aims to reveal that the use of interactive light not only creates visual aesthetics on the stage, but also becomes a fundamental tool that directs the audience's emotional state and spatial perception. Today, the stage is redefined as a responsive and dynamic communication surface that interacts with the audience, rather than a fixed structure. In this context, thanks to interactive light systems, performance spaces have the potential to produce atmospheres that can react to audience behavior and deepen the experience. In this research, the psychological and sensory effects of components of light, such as color, intensity, and direction on the audience are examined through two examples of contemporary performing arts. In addition, current approaches such as mirror neuron theory and Kansei engineering are used as theoretical bases for understanding the audience-light interaction. Conducted in an interdisciplinary framework, this research opens up for discussion a new aesthetic understanding that goes beyond the classical sense of staging and transforms the audience from a passive observer into an active component of the stage experience.
