MAXIMALISM AND TYPOGRAPHY AS A NEW STYLE AGAINST MINIMALISM


Minimalism, which is used to express an approach that emphasizes simplicity and essence by avoiding complexity as a design or artistic approach, aims to focus on the basic elements by avoiding unnecessary details. It is generally based on the principles of simplicity, cleanliness and functionality. There are many areas where minimalism is used effectively. These; They can be specified as art, architecture, fashion, interior design, software, technology designs, graphic design, written and visual communication designs and typographic designs. The main purpose is to help convey the message clearly. Minimalist works in the field of graphic design have become evident with the typographic style and have changed in accordance with the conditions of the age.

            Maximalism, on the other hand, includes a design and art approach that is the exact opposite of minimalism. Maximalists generally embrace rich details, vibrant colors and complexity in their designs. This style often represents a search for aesthetic and inner richness. Maximalism, which aims to highlight artistic expression and richness by emphasizing ostentation and attention to detail, can be used depending on personal preferences, brand image or the requirements of a particular project. Maximalism generally aims to impress the viewer and attract attention by presenting a visual feast.

            Minimalism and maximalism, which represent two seemingly opposite approaches in the design world, can be adopted as a new style in the field of typography. Therefore, possible features that may arise from the combination of maximalism and typography; It can be in the form of flashy and diverse fonts, explosions of color, various patterns and textures, texts enriched with decorative elements, layered designs and complex compositions. Maximalist typography aims to attract the viewer's attention and leave an unforgettable impression. However, it is important to maintain balance and convey the intended message clearly. The combination of maximalism and typography allows for new and striking designs. This approach treats the text not only as a tool to convey information, but also as an art form. It can be said that this design approach attracts the attention of those who want to create remarkable and contemporary designs, especially in fields such as contemporary art, fashion, digital media and advertising. In this research, maximalism, which emerged as a new style against minimalism, was examined and its relationship with typographic designs was explained with examples. As a result of the research, it has been seen that typography has ceased to be just a tool to express the text, but has been placed at the center of the design and has evolved into a design approach where various elements, colors, patterns and decorative elements are used to a large extent.
