INFLUENCE OF HITTITE CIVILIZATION ON NURİ ABAÇ’S WORKS


In this study, the reflection of the Hittite Civilization, which has a great importance among the civilizations that ruled in Anatolia and which influenced many artists with its art and culture, on the works of Nuri Abaç is investigated. It is seen that Hittite cultural data, one of the greatest civilizations established in Anatolia, were processed by various artists with different understandings in different periods of contemporary art. Nuri ABAÇ, one of these artists, produced works reflecting the cultural elements of the Hittite civilization as well as his works on different subjects until the early 1970s. The aim of this research is to investigate how Nuri Abaç benefited from Hittite culture in his works and how he interpreted it with a contemporary understanding. Qualitative method was used in the research, and literature review and work review method were used in data collection. The research is limited to 6 works of Nuri Abaç. As a result of the research, the artist's works benefiting from Hittite culture and art including anthropomorphic elements such as Hittite warriors, slaves, the goddess of fertility Cybele, as well as zoomorphic elements such as lion, deer, bull and cultural objects such as arrows, sun discs, swords and wheat, interpreting them by reconstructing according to his own dream world, it was seen that he made use of the Hittite portrait style and the body posture of the figures in his works, especially in the eyes, and made it a part of his style, and he interpreted all these with a unique plastic understanding.
