CONTROLLED SPONTANEOUS APPROACHES IN CONTEMPORARY TURKISH PAINTING AFTER 1950

Within the scope of the research titled "Controlled Spontaneous Approaches in Contemporary Turkish Painting After 1950", examples of works were given in order to determine the artists who exhibited controlled spontaneous approaches in the abstract expression works of Contemporary Anatolia Turkish painting from the 1950-2023 and to contribute to the relevant literature. In the post-1940 period, the first traces of abstract expressionism, which emerged in Europe, moved itself to America with the negative atmosphere created by the Second World War. The abstract expression developed in America with different style has made tremendous impact. The performance of Jackson Pollock in the USA by laying its large canvas on the ground, on one hand spontaneously developing paint splashes and spills, on the other hand the amount of paint controlled by the artist and the correct application of colour to the right place reveals his controlling side. Although controlled spontaneous approaches are seen in Turkish painting, it has never been subject of research until now. In this context, the research of the subject is considered important and the samples works of the Turkish artists, who use the controlled spontaneous approaches as a form of expression in their works and among them who have a stable attitude like Ekrem Kahraman, Habip Aydoğdu, Bünyamin Balamir, Zuhal Arda, Bedri Baykam, Mehmet Sakızcı, Orhan Cebrailoğlu and Gültem İmamoğlu, are discussed. Qualitative research methods and techniques were used in the research based on the general screening model. During the research process, “document analysis and interview” methods were used to obtain qualitative data.
