AN EVALUATION ON ŞÜKRİYE DİKMEN’S WOMEN PORTRAİT IN THE CONTEXT OF IN MODERN TURKISH PAINTING ART

The western influence seen in Turkish painting art in the Republican period gained value with the participation of some artists in their works in terms of subject and content. The presence of our female painters in the westernization process in Turkish painting is one of the important factors that accelerate this process and add value. In this process, we see that women artists increase their effectiveness in society and contribute to Turkish painting art as artists, educators and thinkers. Şükriye Dikmen, one of our female painters of the Republican era, is one of our important painters who contributed to Turkish painting. In this study, the works of our female artist “Şükriye Dikmenin”, who effectively uses her unique artistic style in “Modern Turkish Painting Art”, were evaluated in the context of portrait. This evaluation was carried out using ten of the female portraits made by the artist. It is thought that this study will contribute to Turkish painting by evaluating the works of Şükriye Dikmen, one of the representatives of important women artists in the Republican period, in the context of portraiture and examining the artist's unique and strong artistic expression. The study was carried out by examining the artistic originality and technique of the artist's female portraits with the descriptive analysis method after the literature review.
