Spirit of Material in Art Education: EVA Designs

The main source of art is nature. However, the atmosphere of nature keeps on changing. Humans attribute meaning and value to nature according to their knowledge. The reflections in art are possible only by the combination of the values in the inner lives of the individuals. Even though pure, natural areas in the outside world continue to decrease, developments in scientific technologies enrich the lives of people in a different manner. Since today we cannot talk about a pure nature, a change is bound to happen in art as well. Hearing, thinking, analysis-synthesis, decision making, stimuli etc. will actualize differently in the age of information technologies. Thus, the reactions caused by the inner and outer worlds of the individual will change according to the environment, material and reflect differently on the product or artwork. New formalizations are necessary in such an atmosphere. Thus, it is important to introduce new materials to the students in art education classes. Eva is made up of vinyl acetate and has a flexible structure. In addition, it is a product used in many different industries as a recyclable material that does not generate any bacteria. In our article, works applied using “eva” within the scope of Art Education course as part of the Classroom Teaching Department in the Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education Primary School Department during the 2014-2015 academic year were examined with the document analysis technique by adopting a qualitative research approach.
