RE-INTERPRETATION OF ART MOVEMENTS IN COMPUTER GAME CONCEPT DESIGN


In the last fifty years video games turned into interactive experience products with empowered educational, scientific, artistic and philosophical aspects, moving forward from being exclusively entertainment objects thanks to the developments on computer technologies. New technological possibilities created the necessity of game visual design with artistic approaches which would boost the experience at a high level. To do this today’s developers pay alot more attetion to the video game concept design and art production processes. Thanks to the rivalry between developer companies based on unique game production, many subjects being reinterpreted and turned into visual resources of various video games such as architectury, geography, time eras, cultures, politic and religious ideologies. Art history and movements also take part as a research area in this effort. The aim of this study is to explain how art movements are reinterpreted in video game concept design. In this study, Art Deco, Romanticism and Grotesque, Minimalism, Steampunk, Cubism and Futurism art movements that contribute to the formation of art history and computer games thought to be influenced by these movements were examined.
